Layla-Rose and the Missing Ribbon

Once upon a time in a little village there lived a girl named Layla-Rose. Layla-Rose was shy and gentle. She loved to dance. She loved to sing. She loved to paint rainbows. She wore a soft red ribbon in her hair every day. One morning she woke and her ribbon was not there. Layla-Rose sat on her bed. She felt sad. She felt small. She softly whispered, “Where is my ribbon?”

Outside, a bright yellow friend stood waiting. It was Flower. Flower was a cheerful talking flower. Flower had soft pink petals. Flower could smile. Flower could wink. Flower said, “Layla-Rose, did you lose your ribbon?” Layla-Rose nodded. Flower nodded too. Flower said, “Let us search the village.”

They stepped outside. The sun was warm. The sky was blue. They walked by the baker’s shop. They saw warm breads. Layla-Rose held Flower. She said, “Hello baker. Have you seen my ribbon?” The baker shook his head. He said, “I have not seen it, dear.” Layla-Rose nodded. She felt a little sad. Flower held her petal and said, “We will find it.”

They walked to the little pond. They saw fish. They saw ducks. Layla-Rose knelt by the water. She whispered, “Ducks, have you seen my ribbon?” The ducks quacked. They quacked again. They did not have the ribbon. Layla-Rose stood up. Flower said, “We keep looking.”

They moved to the garden. They smelled flowers. They saw a big oak tree. They heard a small voice. A gentle voice said, “Is this what you seek?” There sat a kind witch. The witch had a tall hat. The hat was tied with a ribbon. Layla-Rose’s eyes grew big. She asked, “Is that my ribbon?” The witch looked. She realized the ribbon was the same ribbon. She said, “Oh dear, I found this ribbon by the river. I did not know it was yours.”

Layla-Rose smiled. Flower shared her petal. The witch knelt. She took off the ribbon. She gave it to Layla-Rose. Layla-Rose took it. She tied it in her hair. She smiled wide. She felt happy. She said, “Thank you, kind witch.” The witch said, “You are welcome. I am sorry for the worry.”

Flower laughed. Layla-Rose clapped. The witch waved her hand. A small sparkle rose. The witch made a tiny flower bloom. The blossom danced. Layla-Rose felt magic. Flower felt joy. They had fun. They played tie tag. They giggled.

At sunset Layla-Rose and Flower walked home. Layla-Rose held Flower. Layla-Rose learned to ask for help. The witch learned to ask before taking. Flower learned to smile in hope. They reached the little house. Layla-Rose stepped inside. She placed flower in a vase. She set her ribbon by her mirror. She felt safe. She felt loved.

Each night Layla-Rose held her ribbon. She thought of Flower and the kind witch. She whispered, “Good night, my friend.” The ribbon shone in the moonlight. Layla-Rose slept with a happy heart. And in the little village all was calm. The end. Sweet dreams.
