Anthony the Detective in the Abandoned Mine

Anthony was a little Detective. He was kind and brave. He liked to look, listen, and think.

One morning he found a small note on the floor.
It said, “Clink-clink… lost!”
Anthony blinked. “A mystery!”

Outside, near the Abandoned Mine, a friend waved.
It was Ava the Adventurer.
Ava wore a tiny backpack. She smiled big.
“Hi, Anthony! Want to explore?”
Anthony nodded. “Yes. We will find what is lost.”

The mine was old.
The door was dark.
Drip, drip, went water.
“Hold my hand,” said Anthony.
Ava held his hand. “I am not scared,” she said, but her voice was small.
“It’s okay,” Anthony said. “We go slow.”

Inside, their footsteps went tap-tap.
Anthony pointed. “Look. Shiny dust.”
Ava giggled. “Sparkles!”
Anthony sniffed. “And… warm air.”

Then they heard a sound.
Roooar… but also… sniff-sniff.
A Dragon was there.
It was big.
It was red.
It had sad eyes.

Ava whispered, “Dragon!”
Anthony whispered, “Quiet. We observe.”
The Dragon did not run.
It sat like a tired puppy.

Anthony spoke softly. “Hello, Dragon. Are you okay?”
The Dragon sniffed again.
“Something is missing,” it rumbled.
“My clink-clink stone. My treasure stone.”

Ava tilted her head. “Like a bell?”
“Clink-clink,” said the Dragon.
It looked down at the ground.

Anthony knelt.
He saw little scratch marks.
“Hmm,” he said. “A trail.”
He followed it with his finger.
It went to a pile of rocks.

Ava tried to lift a rock.
“Oof!” she said.
Anthony said, “Teamwork.”
They pushed together.
Push… push…
The rock moved.

Behind it was a tiny tunnel.
Cold air came out.
And a small “peep!”

A baby bat fluttered.
It held something shiny.
Clink-clink!
The stone was stuck in a string.
The baby bat was tangled.

Ava said, “Oh no, little one.”
Anthony said, “Gentle hands.”
He slowly loosened the string.
The bat went flap-flap and sat.
The shiny stone fell into Anthony’s palm.
Clink-clink!

Anthony walked to the Dragon.
“Here is your treasure stone,” he said.
The Dragon’s eyes got bright.
“Thank you, Detective,” it rumbled.

The Dragon did not roar now.
It smiled.
It opened a small chest.
Inside were gold buttons and smooth gems.
And one tiny magnifying glass, silver and safe.

“For you,” said the Dragon.
“A Detective tool.”
Anthony’s mouth made a round O.
Ava clapped. “A real treasure!”

Anthony put the magnifying glass in his pocket.
He felt proud.
Ava said, “We helped a Dragon and a baby bat.”
Anthony said, “Yes. We used eyes, ears, and kindness.”

They walked out of the Abandoned Mine.
The sun felt warm.
From inside, the Dragon softly sang,
“Clink-clink, safe again.”

Anthony and Ava went home, holding their treasure and holding hands.
