Malon the Great and the Stolen Colors

Kids stories

At School, Malon the great the Chess Master finds the chessboard has turned gray. With Inventor, he follows paint drops, meets strict Professor, and discovers a locked box of colors. They share, choose soft paints, restore the board, and Malon earns a golden chess-crown sticker.
Malon the Great and the Stolen Colors

Malon the great was a Chess Master at School. He wore a tiny cape. He was kind. He was patient. He loved to say, “One small move.”

Today, something felt wrong. The big chessboard in the play room looked dull. The red squares were not red. The blue squares were not blue. They looked gray, like rainy socks.

Malon blinked. “Oh no. Colors gone.”

A friend rolled in on squeaky wheels. It was Inventor. Inventor had big goggles and a pocket full of tools.

Inventor whispered, “I can fix things!”

Malon nodded. “We will restore colors.”

They walked down the School hall. Tap tap. Tap tap. Little steps.

At the art corner, they saw Professor. Professor had a long coat and a very serious face.

Professor said, “No bright colors today. Too noisy for my eyes.”

Malon’s tummy felt a little tight. But he spoke softly. “Colors help kids smile.”

Professor huffed. “Prove it.”

So Malon made a tiny chess game on the floor with blocks.

“Look,” Malon said. “Red block goes here. Blue block goes there. One small move.”

Inventor added a funny sound: “Boop!”

Professor tried not to laugh. He almost did.

But the School still looked gray.

Inventor pointed to the supply closet. “Maybe the color jars are hiding.”

They opened the door. Creak.

Inside was a little trail of paint drops. Drip. Drip. Drip.

Malon followed the trail like a careful king on a chessboard. “Step. Stop. Step.”

The trail went to the music room. Then to the library. Then under the big teacher desk.

Under the desk sat a box. On it was a label: COLORS.

But the box was locked.

Inventor pulled out a tiny tool. “Click-click.”

Professor appeared behind them. “Stop! That box is mine.”

Malon looked up. He was brave, but gentle.

“Professor,” he said, “Did you take the colors?”

Professor sighed. “Yes. The bright walls made my head feel buzzy. I wanted quiet.”

Malon nodded. “I hear you. Loud colors can feel big.”

Inventor said, “We can make soft colors too!”

Malon smiled. “Like a calm chess move.”

Professor blinked. “Soft colors?”

Malon placed his hand on the box. “We share. We choose.”

Professor slowly handed over the key.

Inventor opened the box. Inside were big, shiny crayons and small paint pots. Red. Blue. Yellow. Green. Also a glitter sticker sheet.

Malon gasped. “Treasure!”

They carried the treasure to the play room.

Inventor mixed the paints: “Swish-swish.”

Malon made a plan like a Chess Master. “Here is calm blue. Here is warm red. Here is gentle yellow.”

They painted the chessboard squares back.

The School smiled again. The walls looked happy, not too bright, not too dull.

Professor tried a small smile. “My eyes feel better.”

Malon said, “One small move can help everyone.”

Inventor gave Malon a special prize: a golden chess piece sticker, shaped like a crown.

Malon the great put it on his cape.

“Chess Master!” the kids cheered.

And in their bright, calm School, the colors stayed, day after day.
